CloudFront is not a simple cache server. Since its launch in 2008, it has expanded to more than 400 edge PoPs (Points of Presence), and beyond an HTTP cache it handles edge computing, TLS termination, WAF, signature-based authentication, and dynamic content acceleration. Netflix being able to stream video to 100 million concurrent viewers, and Amazon Prime Video keeping low latency worldwide, are both thanks to the CloudFront architecture.
